Wicked Plague was developed by LocusMotion and published by ModRetro. The game released on July 11th, 2025. It is exciting to be reviewing a title for the Game Boy Color that has just been released in the year 2025. Wicked Plague is a stylish 8-bit metroidvania with cool, grunge-style characters and satisfyingly difficult combat. The physical version of the game comes in a nice-looking compact box, with concept art and descriptive text on the back.…

In an act to preserve gaming, we do review old games from the PS3/Xbox 360 era all the way to the first home console.
Dragonhym Review
The homebrew and ‘post-life’ library for Game Boy and Game Boy Color seems to be getting new additions every month. While some of these go under the radar and are simple puzzle games, other titles are more ambitious. Dragonborne was originally released as a Game Boy title a few years ago (still in the Game Boy’s ‘post-life’ era).…
Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution Review
The first Shantae game was released in the final days of the Game Boy Color. It didn’t sell very well, and few copies were produced because it emerged late in the GBC’s lifespan. The next entry was the DSi game Shantae: Risky’s Revenge. That title refined the gameplay and did very well. A few years later, Shantae and the Pirates Curse was released on 3DS, which in my opinion is the pinnacle of the series.…
Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (GBA) Retro Review
The Lord of the Rings is a franchise that sits highly in the modern hypothetical sci-fi and fantasy pantheon. Along with Star Wars it encapsulates hope, freedom, and friendship through strife. The Peter Jackson movies, which are now almost 26 years old, reinvigorated the series and led to an avalanche of Lord of the Rings-related media released from around 2001.…
Zelda: Sands of Time (ROM Hack) Review
ROM hacks, usually fan edits of classic video games, can come in a few different forms. Some change small things about a game. Such as changing Link’s hair color from Pink to brown in Zelda: A Link to the Past or removing Juste’s blue character outline in Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance. Other ROM hacks are more ambitious and create whole new games.…
Mario Vs. Donkey Kong Retro Review

The Game Boy Advance released in 2001 and like its predecessor, the Game Boy, it was a really popular handheld video game player. It’s definitive form is probably the GBA SP because of the front-light that it used (backlight in later models). There were probably 20 or 30 games on the GBA that I’d say are must-plays, which is a high amount of good games for any console, and the GBA excelled in quality software.…
