Another Nintendo Emulator Bites The Dust

Another Nintendo emulator is fading into the ether as its core developer — Davide Berra — seeks to prioritize his family over the development of the Pizza Emulators. The emulator was known for being on Android available via the Google Play Store. Since he’s not working on the project any more, he has yanked it from the storefront, likely to never be seen again.

On Discord (via The Verge), Berra expressed his sincerest thanks to the people who supported him in the endeavor. What does ring out, though, is the potential there is something he isn’t telling fans, particularly other reasons why he may be shying away from continuing the development of the emulator.

As we all know, Nintendo strong-armed its way into setting a dangerous precedent by striking down the free and open-source Switch emulator, Yuzu, which also led to the leading 3DS emulator, Citra, falling into disarray and dying alongside it. Obviously, we don’t think Nintendo sent a Cease and Desist letter to Berra, but the timing is palpable that his decision to focus on family comes after the whole situation.

After the Yuzu situation, we can’t blame semi-large emulator devs from wanting to avoid getting caught in Nintendo’s spotlight.
