Surprise, Surprise, Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection Launch Fails Over Server Issues

Stop us if you’ve heard this one before — a pseudo-preservation effort by a third-party developer botches one of the most important aspects of the game, multiplayer, thanks to server issues, glitches, stuttering, and other problems that make the game one to wait on. This is the unfortunate side of Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection, a collection of the first two widely regarded war-centered third-person shooters complete with all DLC and additions.

On paper, this is a fantastic effort to make sure the game hits a new audience, and while Aspyr’s efforts are admirable with the launch of Tomb Raider I-III Remastered Collection, this only goes so far in terms of real preservation, and it only works if things go smoothly. With Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection, things aren’t. The studio failed to accommodate the large player count — debuting with nearly 10,000 — with a lackluster number of servers… only three.

Three servers are all fans got, no player-hosted servers or the ability to make one. This is what led to the continued survival of the original Battlefront 1 and 2. So far, we don’t know if this will be a post-launch feature or something that Aspyr will charge for, but our best guess is they’ll ignore the issue until silently updating things to be more stable, add more servers, and hopefully make the game worth the money.

At this time, each server only holds 64 players and with the lacking number, it only furthered player anger, as this collection has been a dream come true for many fans, who now feel they’ve been done dirty as while the game still has the its Campaign Mode or Offline Multiplayer, its real selling point was the Online Multiplayer, so that’s real classy Aspyr to make its most-loved feature feel like almost an afterthought.

Hopefully, things will smooth out and the team will work on fixing it following the vocal fanbase, especially as the collection has quickly garnered Mostly Negative reviews on Steam.
